Comments: Duke Allen Jackson (Nee: ) | Bangs TX United States | 1851-1900 | Comments: Duke Allen (1850-1929) & wife, Mary Elizabeth Bishop (1856-1932) Jackson. "D.A." was the son of Thomas Jefferson and Martha "Patsy" Allen Jackson. Mary E. was the dau of Duke and Sally Langford Allen. Both were born in Hardeman Co., TN. After moving to Texas in the late 1870s, they had to make a stop at Granbury, Hood Co., for the birth of their first born son. After his birth, they continued on, settling at "The Gap" (now known as Santa Anna) Coleman Co., TX. Duke was instrumental in the founding of thefirst public school in the area. By 1888 he purchased land in the area of Bangs, Brown Co., TX. While at Bangs, he and family lived through "The Bangs Cyclone of 31 March 1892" - all of their children well remembered living in their dirt floor log cabin at the base of the Santa Anna Mountain, then called "The Gap", and their terrifying experience living through and watching the logs of their Bangs, Tx cabin being taken off row by row around their home by the what we call today, a tornado.
